The Birth of Typing Services

I thought about leaving full time work and starting my own business as a professional typist for a long time, but financially it is not an easy thing to do and it is hard to walk away from the security of a full time wage.

Fortunately, my husband's business (he made the jump when he was made redundant and so had nothing to lose) started to make a substantial profit, and he agreed to support me whilst I made the transition. So, I finally did it and left full time work and set up Typing Services.

In my previous role as a Clinical Secretary, I transcribed hundreds of digital transciption files, mainly into medical reports but I did lots of other stuff too, such as minutes of meetings, letters, patient notes, newsletters, you name it, I have transcribed it.

Before working as a Clinical Secretary, I clocked up years of experience as a PA, working for various Heads of Service in the public sector. This has taught me a vast amount of different computer skills such as creating PowerPoints, recreating tables and diagrams, website design, working with Macro's and getting to grips with Excel spreadsheets.

All this experience behind me has helped me make the decision to start my own business because not only am I confident at transcribing but I can also tackle adhoc administrative tasks that inevitably come as part and parcel of transcribing such as navigating different templates.

Although, having the opportunity and the expertise to start my own business, there was still lots of preparation work to do before launching Typing Services which included building the website and training myself to speed type.

Amidst much excitement, anticipation and nervous tension, Typing Services was launched in January 2015, and I am absolutely ecstatic to have received my first enquiries.
